Seynekun | Market analysis for the funding & development of a circular economy plant

Overview

We supported Seynekun in defining a strategic roadmap for the development of a circular‑economy plant. The first step was an in‑depth market analysis, along with a technical and economic feasibility assessment. Subsequently, the analysis focused on the demand for sustainable services within the Palermo Free Trade Zone (FTZ), an important industrial and logistics hub located on Colombia’s Atlantic coast, on the eastern bank of the Magdalena River, and in the surrounding areas.

Background

Seynekun, a company in the field of energy transition and sustainability, has been established in Colombia with the aim of encouraging organizations within an industrial Palermo Free Trade Zone (FTZ) and its neighbouring regions to adopt sustainability initiatives, starting with waste management as the first focus area.

Seynekun aims to provide circular economy services, with the initial concept of achieving these goals through the development of a circular economy and waste treatment facility, designed to enhance the attractiveness and value of the area in which it operates.

Challenge

The primary challenge of the project was to define the most suitable type of waste treatment facility within the Palermo FTZ and assess its feasibility.

It also required navigating opportunities, threats, and risks (such as national regulations and possible economic incentives) to maximize the benefits of the facility while ensuring compliance with environmental standards and minimizing its impact on the region.

A complementary goal was to perform a demand analysis for a sustainable services ecosystem, involving organizations within the Palermo FTZ and surrounding areas.

Finally, the project focused on enhancing the capabilities of the newly established company to engage in sustainable investment initiatives, enabling the expansion and evolution of sustainability services across the region.

Approach

We conducted a full end-to-end feasibility process covering technical, commercial and financial dimensions. The work began with a market and feedstock assessment to quantify biogas potential, regulatory conditions and revenue streams. We then developed the technical feasibility study of the biometano plant, defining process architecture, production yields, CAPEX/OPEX ranges and expected performance.

In parallel, we launched and managed the supplier engagement, performing structured evaluations of Sebigas and Norvento through site visits, engineering reviews and commercial due diligence. This led to a competitive EPC selection process, comparing delivery models, timelines, risk allocation and execution governance.

Delivery

Results Achieved

Seynekun gained a complete feasibility framework for its biometano project, including validated market assumptions, technical performance estimates and CAPEX/OPEX ranges. The competitive process delivered a clear comparison of engineering quality, delivery models and risk profiles, enabling the identification of the most suitable EPC strategy.

The preliminary financial analysis confirmed the project’s bankability potential and provided the basis for investor engagement and next-phase engineering.

Seynekun obtained a validated feasibility framework confirming a feedstock potential of 125,000 tonnes/year and robust production and performance estimates.

The supplier scouting screened over 50 companies, narrowing the shortlist to 2 final EPC candidates through a structured competitive process.
